Navistar is recalling over than 2,700 heavy-duty International trucks due to a potential brake issue that could lengthen the distance needed to stop and increase the risk of a crash.

The OEM is recalling 2,733 2016-2018 International LT; 2016-2017 International ProStar; 2017 International LoneStar, and 2017-2018 International RH trucks.

The defect involves an air-dryer mounting bracket that may fracture, which could cause the air dryer to separate from the vehicle frame with possible airline separation from the dryer. This could result in air system leaks or loss of air pressure to the brake system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The issue results from insufficient material strength, which causes bracket fatigue failure. A generous loss of air pressure on the air gauge or an audible buzzer in the cab may indicate that the problem has occurred.

The remedy involves replacing the air-dryer mounting bracket with a bracket made of heavier gauge steel and thicker gussets.

Navistar will notify owners and dealers of the need to replace the air-dryer mounting bracket, which will be done free of charge.

The recall is expected to start on May 12, 2017. Truck owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar’s recall number recall is 17502.
